The London Metropolitan Police have officially charged British comedian and actor Russell Brand with several sexual offenses. On April 4, 2025, the charges were made public. They include two counts of sexual assault, one count of oral rape, one act of indecent assault, and one crime of rape.
Four women are allegedly involved in these alleged occurrences, which are said to have taken place between 1999 and 2005. The official accusations come after a nearly two-year inquiry that began in September 2023 after many women reported Brand's wrongdoing. One woman said she was raped by Brand in his Los Angeles home in 2012, and another said she was in an abusive relationship with him when she was sixteen.A third woman recounted an assault while working for him, and a fourth, identified as ex-girlfriend Jordan Martin, accused him of both sexual and physical abuse.
Currently living in the United States, Brand is expected to appear on May 2, 2025, at Westminster Magistrates' Court. He has always rejected all of the accusations, claiming that his previous partnerships were voluntary. Brand said in a 2023 video statement that the charges were a part of a concerted media campaign against him.
The Metropolitan Police have emphasized that the investigation is still ongoing and have urged any further victims or people with relevant information to come forward. As the case moves forward, it continues to garner a lot of public attention and has rekindled conversations about power relationships and responsibility in the entertainment sector.
