A devastating plane crash occurred in Southern California on Thursday, resulting in the deaths of two people and injuring 18 others. The single-engine Van's RV-10 crashed into a commercial building in Fullerton, Orange County, at 2:15 PM PST (8:15 PM GMT). The building, which houses a furniture manufacturing business, caught fire, but firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze.
According to the Fullerton Police Department, ten people were taken to the hospital with injuries, while eight others were treated and released at the scene. Congressman Lou Correa, who represents the area, reported that at least a dozen of the victims are factory workers. Aerial photos of the scene show parts of the plane inside the building.
Witnesses described the moment of the crash. Mark Anderson, a witness, said, It was just a large boom, and then one of the people went out and said, 'Oh my gosh, the building's on fire.' Another witness, Juanita Ramirez, an employee at the furniture factory, told the Orange County Register that she heard a loud bang before seeing a large ball of fire heading towards her. Approximately 100 people were evacuated from the building.
The cause of the crash is still unknown, and officials have provided no further details. The crash site is near the Fullerton Municipal Airport, and it appears that the plane was attempting to return to the airport shortly after takeoff. This incident marks the second plane crash in the area in the past two months; another plane crashed into a tree roughly one block away from this recent crash on November 25.
