The issue, which began around noon Eastern Time, resulted in numerous account holders seeing $0 balances or incorrect amounts in both checking and savings accounts. Down Detector, a website that tracks service disruptions, showed a peak of 20,000 reports around 1:20 PM Eastern Time.
However, as of 6:30 PM Pacific Time, Down Detector reported a significant decline in issue reports, with numbers dipping below 700. The decline in reported problems began around 5:15 PM Pacific Time, suggesting the outage was finally winding down.
Some customers were frustrated by the lack of clear communication from Bank of America about the cause and expected duration of the problem. There were also reports of some physical Bank of America branches turning away customers or closing early due to system-wide issues. The bank's customer service channels, including phone lines and social media support, were inundated with inquiries from concerned account holders.
